“WVO Truck”

Mike operated this Waste Vegetable Oil truck for over 2 years to promote alternative energy. Using recycled oil salvaged from restaurants, Mike lived the dream of the Back to the Future Delorean, albeit in the far less graceful form of a giant, lumbering Ford F250. Rigged with a custom heater box to pre-heat the oil before entering the fuel pump, the ‘84 F250’s 2nd gas tank also offered the opportunity of separating and mixing both pure diesel and the raw, unheated vegetable oil. Ultimately, the everyday driving of the truck itself proved to be the failing point for Mike’s lifestyle, but the concept - of starting a traditional diesel vehicle on regular diesel while pre-heating the used oil for a few minutes - proved to be a totally replicable one.
